Greek Orthodox Youth of America

The Greek Orthodox Youth of America, or GOYA, is a national youth program of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Its main activities are fellowship, service, and social activities. The orientation and implementation of the program reflects the Orthodox Christian Faith, Tradition and Life.

GOYA is open to junior high and high school grade Orthodox Christian teenagers. Teenagers should be in seventh through twelfth grades to participate.

The mission and goal of GOYA ministry is to lead young people into experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith.

Members of GOYA are colloquially known as "Goyans".

Goyans compete in sports such as basketball, soccer, Greek dance, and in some districts an annual Olympics, with sports such as Swimming, Softball, Volleyball, Track and Field, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, etc

GOYAns and Parents and College Students of St. Johns!

Below is a list of upcoming GOYA events. We are also forwarding this e-mail to our college students, as you are an important part of our community at St. Johns and we want to encourage your involvement in the upcoming activities.

St. John the Theologian Clean Up Day: This Saturday our entire parish is invited to come and help clean and make Palm Sunday Crosses. Liturgy begins at 10:00am and the clean up will take place after. GOYA has always been a part of this day. You might ask yourself, why is it important for me to help clean up the Church? You also might say, "Oh gosh, I'd kind of like to go, but I have better things to do." Here is a little note of encouragement for you to consider if you find yourself thinking that way: Our parish needs you. Yes you. This is a day for you to give back to your Church, which is an undeniably important part of your life. This is a way for you to bond with people other than our GOYA group, such as the Priest, altar servers, Philoptochos, and AHEPAns. So, please take a couple of hours and come to help on Saturday. We really hope to see you there! :)

All Night Vigil: Every year it is a tradition that on Holy Friday night, our GOYAns and college students sleep in the Church and keep vigil over the tomb of Christ. This will be taking place next Friday, April 17th. We will provide lenten food and beverages for everyone. So, if you plan on staying, please let us know (email or call Christina) so we have enough food. Note: Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Clear Lake Greek Festival: GOYA/College Students will be hosting the "Building our Church Brick by Brick Booth." I will have a sign up sheet ready for you this Sunday. We need at least 2 people there at a time and so, if everyone can donate 3 hours, I think we should be covered. We know Prom and a million other things are going on that weekend...but consider how a little output from you that weekend will have many benefits for years to come!

We love you all and hope that you are having a good lent. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call us. If there is anyone we omitted, please forward the e-mail to them.

With Love,
Christina, Elena, and Maria
